Do the RAID cards include cache protection?

New MegaRAID cards ship with CacheVault or supercapacitor protection. On used cards we verify the CVPM05 module is present before quoting — it is frequently missing on pulled stock.

What is Tri-Mode and do I need it?

Tri-Mode (SAS / SATA / NVMe on one controller) applies to Broadcom 9400 and later, and SmartRAID 3200. Choose it if you plan to mix drive types behind a single card.

Can you flash HBA cards to IT mode?

Yes — LSI 9207 / 9300 HBAs ship IT-mode flashed for ZFS and software-defined storage deployments.

Backplane connector check: 9400 series uses SFF-8643 Mini-SAS HD; 9500 / 9600 and OEM Gen11 cards use SFF-8654 SlimSAS — cable families are not interchangeable.
MegaRAID / SmartRAID cache cards need a CacheVault (CVPM05) or supercapacitor module — we confirm its presence on pulled stock before quoting.
OEM-branded controllers may carry platform-locked firmware and are not interchangeable with retail Broadcom equivalents. Quotes valid ≤ 7 days.
